Beside him Isidor tenses, but Lawrence is more interested in concocting an argument than starting a physical fight. As much as she wants to help him out of the spotlight, she can't see a graceful way to do it, so she watches the three of them while Viatorus squirms under their gazes.
"Yes, and no," he says eventually. "I've seen scans of dreamers before, and I know what the brain looks like when it's dreaming. It is a series of thoughts, b-b-but it's also much more than that. People are much more than that. The body, mind, soul, and will... They're all interconnected. While we're asleep they're the most connected, because the subconscious mind is free of the conscious one. In dreams we are our honest selves, our True Selves, in a sense. With all of us, neurons and will together."
