"What we are isn't what we look like," Hardtman says softly. "It's the things we've experienced, how we relate to each other, and who we want to be inside. We decide for ourselves who we are in our actions and in our words."
In a calm and even way Lawrence says to Viatorus, "Am I not the same person I was before because I lost my arm?" His mechanical fingers flex before Viatorus to prove his point and even, just the tiniest bit, he smiles.
"You're definitely more of a whiner," Robin says with a laugh, spoiling the moment but bringing a soft and genuine smile to Lawrence's face. For a second there he really does resemble his brother, until he elbows her and she 'oof!'s, giving him a certain kind of satisfaction.
He returns his attention to Viatorus and confirms, "Maybe I'm a bigger whiner, but I'm still the same person. We all want to believe Harrowheart is the same person he used to be even after everything that's happened to him, too. I don't know if he believes it, but I think it's true."
"The same," Anna begins thoughtfully, "But... Happier? Now that he's someplace new. And I think we're all happier, in a way? Ever since we left Westfall we... Really learned a lot about who we are." She looks around the table to take in the sight of her family and friends. "Right?"
Some nod immediately, but others take a moment to survey the scene around them. Jacob and Heather consider their daughter and their son, Matt stares at his palms while Robin turns her eyes toward the work they've done on Ixis Naugus' land. Mr. Weatherhill reaches out to hold his wife's hand, and she takes it with a smile.
Softly Hardtman whispers, "You're right. I think we've all learned that finding out who you are... Sometimes it means taking a big chance. Making a change you never thought you could, and seeing what you're made of when you come out on the other side."
