Lawrence exhales a heavy, "No. There's a lot more to this." It's a few more seconds and a few more tense breaths before he continues the story.
"I guess Reynard decided he'd get revenge. Give Harrowheart a taste of his own medicine or something, fuck if I know. He tricked my sister, Anna, into 'helping him with something.' When she agreed, he put a pair of earrings on her. He used them to take control of her. He made her into his fucking mindslave for fun."
Just the thought of it locks up his jaw and he has to look away. Tamminy reaches for his hand, but he won't unclench his fist, and so she settles for patting the back of it.
Through grit teeth he admits, "I blame myself for that, too. We should have known something was wrong with her, but everyone thought she was just being... Crazy Anna. Same as always."
"Anna has mood swings," Tamminy gently explains. "She doesn't always have full control of her mindsets and it can lead to periods of erratic behavior."
Lawrence sighs. "Everything was going so well since she started seeing Dr. Hill. But then she started acting wild. She was out without shoes in the snow. Giggling and laughing and talking to voices we couldn't hear. She'd disappear for hours or days. We all figured it was just her old issues. Turns out it was him. Talking to her, ordering her around, making her laugh as she did whatever he wanted, taking her off in private to do... Light knows what to her. Now we're all waiting for her to relapse again. She doesn't even feel like she owns her own mind anymore. She's scared to go out. She's scared to be taken advantage of by people. Scared to trust people." He tries to spit but his mouth is far too dry. "That awful bastard. It's mind rape is what it was."
